The story of Advanced Home Actives and Brazilian Peel starts with, of all things, a haircut. My hairstylist was late for our appointment because she had gone to the dermatologist for a glycolic facial treatment. She came in with a beet-red face, obviously in pain, and quite upset. She had been overexposed to the chemical peel: too much time without neutralization had caused the classic adverse reaction to the treatment.
Being a chemical engineer very familiar with the chemistry of acids and bases, and always interested in solving problems, I began to study chemical peels, how they work and, as it turns out, how sometimes they don’t. I learned that a truly effective exfoliation needed a strong dose of glycolic acid but controlling the treatment time was critical. At that time, the standard treatment required two steps: applying the glycolic acid and then, after an appropriate time, neutralizing the acid to stop the treatment. So, I figured, why not invent a treatment that would turn itself off? Sounds pretty simple, but not so easy.
Like most entrepreneurial adventures, Advanced Home Actives started out in a garage. We built a little lab, bought some chemistry instruments, and looked for a better solution to a basic problem: how to make an effective, safe, single-step glycolic acid facial treatment. From those early days in the lab, through the clinical studies to prove the treatment is effective and safe, to the creation of the Brazilian Peel brand, the team and I have enjoyed every step. The result is a fantastic line of powerfully effective skin care products utilizing innovative technology and a unique combination of natural ingredients like glycolic acid, Acai oil and our patent-pending Q-Mag Mineral Neutralizer.
We could not have done it without great partners, suppliers, and the friends and family who have tried and, as it turns out, LOVE the product for its vibrant, invigorating and regenerative benefits. We are excited to introduce you to Brazilian Peel!
